What is Google
Google LLC is an
American multinational technology company that specializes in Internet-related
services and products, which include online advertising technologies, a search
engine, cloud computing, software, and hardware. It is considered one of the
Big Five technology companies in the U.S.
History of Google
Google is the world's most popular search engine. It began as a search project in 1996 by Larry Page and Sergey Brin, when they were both PhD students at Stanford University in Stanford, California.
Over the
next few years, Google caught the attention of not only the academic community,
but Silicon Valley investors as well. In August 1998, Sun co-founder Andy
Bechtolsheim wrote Larry and Sergey a check for $100,000, and Google Inc. was
officially born.
In February 2004, Yahoo! dropped its partnership with Google, providing an independent search engine of its own. This cost Google some market share, yet Yahoo!'s move highlighted Google's own distinctiveness.
Google went public on 19 August 2004, using the 'dutch auction' method. Ever since the announcement of the IPO was made in April 2004, the IPO became mired in some controversy or other.
After the IPO, Google's stock market capitalization rose greatly and the stock price more than quadrupled. On August 19, 2004, the number of shares outstanding was 172.85 million while the "free float" was 19.60 million (which makes 89% held by insiders).
Corporate Headquarters of Google
The Googleplex is the corporate headquarters complex of Google and its parent company Alphabet Inc. It is located at 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway in Mountain View, California, United States.
As of June 2019, Google and Alphabet had more than 70 offices in over 50 countries around the globe, including Germany, Czech Republic, Finland, Canada, Mexico, Turkey and New Zealand.
Google headquarters has come a long way from its humble roots in a Menlo Park garage, but their innovative Silicon Valley spirit is stronger than ever. On Google largest campus, work on cutting-edge products that are changing the way billions of people use technology. Onsite benefits like fitness and wellness centers embody Google's employee's philosophy that taking care of Googlers is good for all of them.
